Organising & sharing
How do you organise practice material and share it with students?
Jean-Marc Perc · · Length 2:27
Anyone who teaches knows the problem: last week’s good exercise is reproducible – in theory. In practice it lives as a photo on a phone, a keyword in a notebook and a memory in your head, and none of the three adds back up to the state you actually meant. Notes and Info in SMART FRET solve exactly that: a snapshot saves not the description of an exercise but the exercise itself.
What does the Info panel show?
Info surfaces extra information while you work – the context sits where it is needed, rather than in a separate help section you have to go and find.
That is the difference between a manual and an explanation at the moment of the question. Someone who wants to know what a mode is while clicking on one is not going to go looking through documentation for it.
From the Info panel straight into your notes
If something there is worth keeping, you highlight it and send it into your Notes as text in one click. No retyping, no switching to another app.
The notes themselves are free-form: your own thoughts, reminders, pointers for students – whatever belongs to the current state.
What is a snapshot?
The heart of it. Anything you have built in SMART FRET can be saved as a snapshot – a chord shape, a whole progression, a scale pattern.
You click Snap right above the notepad and give it a name. It appears in the square above the notes, where every snap from that session is collected.
What matters is what a snapshot is not: not a screenshot and not a description. One click on the snap loads that state fully back into the app, with everything that was set up in it.
Notes on a snapshot – and one click back
The notes area also shows the snapshot’s title, so the explanation sits next to the thing it explains. A click on the title reveals which snap is meant; a click on the snap itself brings it back.
For teaching that combination is the decisive one: the student does not get “practise Dorian in third position”, they get the state with exactly that set up, and the sentence saying why next to it.
Tabs and folders: from exercise to course
Several snaps live on one tab, and you can create more tabs and organise everything to your own structure. That is enough to build a whole course – split by days, say, each with its own exercises.
This is the point where collected material becomes a curriculum: not a list of topics but a sequence of states you can call up in order.
Adding your own videos and backing tracks
A session can carry a YouTube link – your own filmed lesson, a song, or a backing track. That puts everything a student needs in one place instead of spreading it across email, messenger and a cloud folder.
Save and share in one click
Once the session is ready you save it in the upper right and share it in one click – either as a link to anyone, or directly to students you have already invited. How inviting works and how a live lesson runs is the next tutorial.
In short
- The Info panel explains what you just interacted with, where the question actually comes up.
- Highlighted text from the Info panel goes into your notes in one click.
- A snapshot saves what you have built: a chord shape, a progression or a scale pattern.
- One click on a snapshot loads that state fully back into the app.
- Several tabs and your own folder structure turn single exercises into a course, split by days for instance.
- Finished sessions can be shared as a link with anyone, or sent straight to students you invited.

This one's all about staying organized — Notes and Info.
Info shows you extra information whenever you interact with SMART FRET so context is always right there when you need it.
If you've found something in the Info panel that you want to remember, or that's part of what you're practicing, you only need to highlight it and with a single click, you can send it as text straight into your Notes.
Notes is where you write things down — your own thoughts, reminders, whatever you want to remember. But here's where it gets really powerful: you can save whatever you've built in SMART FRET — a chord shape, a progression, a scale pattern, anything — as a snapshot.
Thanks to Multi-Edit, I can quickly make some settings that we'll save as a snapshot. Now I click Snap, right above the notepad, and name it. You can see it right here in the square above the notes. This is where all the snaps from this session get saved.
Below, in the notes area, you'll also see the title of that snap — so you can write your thoughts or extra info for yourself or your students right alongside it. One click on the title reveals which snap it is, and one click on the snap itself loads it straight back into SMART FRET.
You can make multiple snaps on one tab — and you can also create more tabs and organize things however you like. This is how you could build an entire course, for example — divided into days, each with its own specific exercises.
You can also combine a YouTube link — if you've filmed your own lesson, or want to include a song or backing track for yourself or your student. So everything a student needs lives in one place.
Once your session is ready, save it in the upper right corner — and share it with a single click, either as a link to anyone, or directly to students you've already invited.
That's Notes and Info — the backbone for anyone teaching, or anyone who just wants to keep their practice organized.
